Railroad Called Facebook: not Funny but True and Weird
Who cares?!
Facebook is one of the worst inventions of 21st century, and everybody knows it. By reading this article, you’re just wasting your time. It is weird and NOT funny.
About two hundred years ago the first railroad appeared. About fifteen years ago the first social networking website appeared. Both of them are about the same, if one has enough creativity to understand that the horse-drawn carriage is about the same as modern-day airplane. Both are used to move things around, but were invented in different ages. The same holds true for the railroad and Facebook.
What’s the difference between the railroad and Facebook then? Virtual versus real. Otherwise, it is the same thing at different stages of development: the first one is practically dead; the second one is blooming like a deadly flower, which has already swallowed a lot of investors’ money, and will swallow more – all for the sake of making the world dumber and more connected.
So let’s get dumber and more connected! It would greatly help the CIA and NSA. They don’t have enough power. We should give them some.
Anyway, let’s go back to our comparison. Railroads were used to haul a lot of shit around. What do social networks do? They also haul a lot of shit around. Just a different kind of shit. The kind of shit that’s very similar to this:
Another point to consider is that Facebook and Twitter – the epitomes of modern-day social media – have started only in 2004 and 2006, which brings us to mere 9 and 7 years. Multiply those two numbers by ten, or twenty, and you’ll see the railroad industry in its infancy, at which point many people have rushed to it, leading to boom, which has ended only a few decades later when the stock of all railroad companies crashed. Thus, the only question is when. But considering the fact that nowadays’ market of social media is much more volatile and open than the 19th century Wild West railroad business – over then the rich guys could hire some bad guys to prevent you from ever competing with them -, it becomes obvious that there is no indication that any social media company is likely to become a stable business.
Among one of those companies is Facebook, which has made about five billion dollars last year and has more than one billion users. Sounds impressive, huh? I agree. It does sound impressive. But it is also the limit. There are about 7 billion people in the world, of whom only 30% have Internet – or in other words, 2.1 billion people in the world have Internet.
Do you think that more than half of the world’s population would agree to become members of the same site? Leave us a funny comment or die trying.
